A 225-horsepower, 4.6L V8 is standard on the E-150, while all Super Duty E-350s come with a standard 255-horsepower, 5.4L V8. The 5.4L is optional on the E-150; exclusive to the E-350 is the optional 6.8L Triton V10 or 6.0L Power Stroke turbo-diesel, which is best for towing and makes 235 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque. The 4.6L and 5.4L engines are now available with E85 flex fuel capability.
Beyond the super basic cargo model, the XL models come with air conditioning, AM/FM radio, tilt steering and a seating arrangement with front bucket seats and two 3-passenger bench seats in back. XLTs step up to a 6-speaker CD sound system, dual captain's chairs in front, power windows, mirrors, and locks, plus cruise control. The E-350 extended models have several additional seating configurations that can accommodate up to 15 people.
The 2009 Ford Econoline is fully customizable with myriads of available options. To name a few: a rear sensing system with rear back up camera, an audio & navigation system with 6-disc in-dash CD changer and satellite radio capability, 16" forged aluminum wheels, sliding side cargo door and electronic message center.
All new for 2009 is Ford's Work Solutions system which offers a set of integrated security and productivity applications, such as: an integrated in-dash computer with internet connectivity, a Bluetooth wireless keyboard, printer, Tool Link, which helps to keep track of valuable tools and equipment, and Crew Chief, which helps track fleet vehicles.
Standard safety features include: 4-wheel anti-lock brakes and dual front airbags. A manual deactivation switch for the airbags is optional as is AdvanceTrac with roll stability control, an electronic stability aid aimed at preventing the loss of control that could lead to a rollover.
